Court proceedings continued Wednesday for Amber Boeken and Joshua Knapp, both charged with first-degree murder in the death of Iolan Shawn Cook.
Magistrate Judge Thomas Saxton set status hearings for both at 1:30 p.m. July 13.
Boeken appeared in court with her attorney, Mary Stephenson, Paola.
Knapp, who is in custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections in an unrelated case, was not at Wednesday’s hearing. He was represented by his attorney, Jay Witt, Chanute.
Boeken and Knapp are accused of killing Cook, 33, on or around March 13.
Cook’s disappearance sparked an extensive search. His body was found along the Neosho River north of Neosho Falls. Preliminary autopsy reports indicate Cook was stabbed.
Boeken was arrested on releated charges March 21; Knapp on unrelated charges March 24.
Both remain in custody on $1 million bonds.
In addition to the murder charge, Boeken also faces charges she distributed a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia within 1,000 feet of a school and possessed methamphetamine. She also faces a felony charge of battering a corrections officer following an incident April 26 in the Allen County Jail, where she’s being held.
Also, Allen County Attorney Jerry Hathaway told Saxton he had filed a motion to keep the probable cause affidavit in the Cook case sealed from public view.
KOAM TV, Pittsburg, filed a motion in Allen County District Court to have the affidavit — which outlines why police believe Knapp and Boeken should have been arrested and charged — opened to the public.
Hathaway said Stephenson and Witt may file motions as well.
Saxton has five days to decide whether to keep the affidavit sealed.
